1. New York City

New York City

When it comes to the modern gay-rights movement, New York City has its place in history with the Stonewall riots. Travelers to the Big Apple will find extremely welcoming communities like Chelsea, Hell’s Kitchen and the West Village. You can grab a drink at the Stonewall Inn – a bar that’s in the same spot as the original watering hole from the 1960s.

2. Toronto, Ontario

Toronto

You might feel like the entire world wound up in the Great White North when you head to Toronto, where the first legally recognized same-sex marriage in the world took place in 2001. Canada’s biggest city is also one of the most multicultural in North America, making for an exciting vibe wherever you go. The LGBT hub of the city can be found in the Church-Wellesley area at The Village. This is spot to go for events like the Pride March, Dyke March and the Halloween Block Party is absolutely out of this world.

3. Cancun, Mexico

Cancun

Cancun is no stranger to tourists, being one of the best spring break destinations around. But it’s also home to Playa Delfines, one of the more popular gay beaches. The swimming here is a bit rough, but the white sands you’ll relax upon will more than make up for it.

4. Montevideo, Uruguay

Montevideo

The smallest country in South America is also the most progressive. Uruguay legalized same-sex marriage in 2013, the first Latin American nation to do so. The capital city of Montevideo is a great change of pace from speed that life goes by in other major South American cities. Take your special someone for a walk around the rambla – a 15 ½-mile promenade that hugs the River Plate.

5. Tel Aviv, Israel

Tel Aviv

Tel Aviv is known the world over for a beach that seemingly goes on forever. It’s also known for having one of the most vibrant gay communities in the world. The Israeli city is also home to the Tel Aviv Gay Festival, the first international gay winter festival in the world. Like you needed another excuse to visit, right?

6. Ibiza, Spain

Ibiza

Whether gay or straight, most everyone knows just how rocking parties get on the small island of Ibiza. Es Cavallet is the main gay beach for the area, which also welcomes nudity. If you’d rather just have a relaxed time, we recommend Figueretes, the town beach. Finish off the day with a drink at one of the many beach bars in Las Salinas. And if you want to party… well… that won’t be too hard to do at night in Ibiza.

7. Miami, Florida

Miami

From the sexy men and women lounging on South Beach to the high-end shopping on Lincoln Road and exquisite dining on Ocean Road, Miami has a little bit of everything for everyone. Want to dance the night away? You can take your pick from several clubs that stay open until the sun comes up.

8. Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Rio de Janeiro

We know about the sexy sunbathers and how everyone loves visiting Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro, but Ipanema Beach really brings the heat! Head a bit east of Rua Farme de Amoedo to discover Ipanema’s gay spot, Farme Gay Beach. This is also the place to find out about the party scene as many party promoters will be distributing flyers to all the gay parties and clubs.
